Digital Design Studio 2.1.2: supported environments and limitations
Where Digital Design Studio 2.1.2 runs, what each environment supports and the known limitations at release. Check the selected host, account permissions and current support before use.
Windows 2.1.2
Use the signed Windows 11 x64 package with WebView2. My PC projects open from a Windows folder without WSL. You can edit and save without signing in. Signed-in users on any plan, including Free, can use the supported local features; no device licence is needed.
Testbenches: install the optional OSS CAD Suite simulators after confirmation, then run from the RTL simulation tab's Testbench view. Icarus Verilog needs no additional C++ toolchain; Verilator needs a compatible C++ compiler and make. In 2.1.2 the view sends each SystemVerilog package before the files that use it, shows Testbench reported a failure when a testbench reports a failure even if the simulator exits normally, and lists simulator errors and warnings with their file and line. First RTL simulation.
New-user example: the counter project can open automatically on a new setup. Existing users can choose Local → Projects on this PC → Open example. The app does not replace unsaved work.
GDS: a signed-in or valid offline-signed-in user can view saved
.gdsand.gdsiifiles up to 4 MiB from the project. This is read-only viewing, not DRC, LVS or manufacturing signoff.Project settings: include directories and defines apply to supported compilation and simulator runs. Headers must stay inside the project.
Source work: supported local editing, saving, Git, compiler diagnostics and hierarchy keep their own requirements. Git features need Git for Windows. My PC projects do not offer the integrated Terminal tool.
Updates: the update from 2.0.3.1 to 2.1.2 is installed by 2.0.3.1, so it still asks you to save your work, restart Windows and then open the app. From 2.1.2, an in-app update installs without a Windows restart: the app keeps a recovery copy of unsaved changes in open files, lists any work it cannot keep and then continues only if you choose Update anyway, and closes and opens again in the new version.
Graphics for vFactory: on a PC with both integrated and discrete graphics, Windows may run the app on the integrated GPU. To use the discrete GPU for vFactory's 3D views, open Windows Settings → System → Display → Graphics, set Digital Design Studio to High performance, open the app again and check the tier that vFactory shows.
Cloud and Linux are separate environments
Cloud projects save their files in Cloud and expose only the actions available to the selected organization and project. The Windows Testbench view and counter example are not offered by Cloud projects or Linux desktop packages. Use the separately published Linux package and CLI installation instructions for their actual supported scope.
Use the selected host’s available analysis operation to create a new run; preserve its input identity, engine version, diagnostics and saved output. Cloud jobs require an offered operation, permission and QUOTA. Cloud UVM and the Physical coordinator runtime remain unavailable. Opening a saved run, a setup dialog or a tool catalogue does not submit a job, and a rejected or unsupported action is never a successful zero-valued result.
vFactory
vFactory runs in Cloud and in the Windows and Linux desktop apps. In the product menu, choose vFactory → Wafer Process & Fab.
3D views: with WebGPU, vFactory picks a quality tier for your GPU, by default High on a discrete GPU and Medium on an integrated or unrecognized GPU. Without WebGPU it uses WebGL2 at Low, and without either the 3D views show the 2D plan. The quality selector shows the automatic choice, such as Auto (Medium), and you can choose another tier if your device supports it.
Design to wafer: Send to vFactory is offered in the GDS layout view of Cloud projects only.
EUV clip: imaging runs on your device. Cloud imaging is not available yet; use local tiling.
Your data: fab model files, including MiniFab models, are files you import. No third-party fab data set ships with vFactory.
Assumptions: fab values, EUV calculations and design-to-wafer yields are documented assumptions or uncalibrated estimates. They are not measured equipment performance, foundry yield or manufacturing signoff. The measured-data panels are educational examples built from public data.
Known limitations in 2.1.2
On Intel Iris Xe, shared GPU memory grows by about 16.6 MB each time the EUV scanner's inside view is opened and closed, and by about 32–36 MB for each switch between the Medium and Low quality tiers. A later release fixes this.
In vFactory's EUV clip, Cloud imaging is not available yet. Use local tiling on your device.
Agent and account usage
The web and desktop AI panel offers Agent, the company-provided AI, for eligible accounts after the current consent checks. Company AI explains supported tasks, age and country conditions, data processing and safety. BYOK uses your own provider and separate fees.
Since October 16, 2026 at 10:00 KST (UTC+09:00), weekly QUOTA is shared by Agent and eligible Compute, and Cloud storage limits apply by organization. When the remaining QUOTA cannot cover an Agent request, Agent refuses it and says so, even if some QUOTA is left; the notice shows when QUOTA refills and how to continue with your own provider key. Plus trials are not currently offered. A translated interface or successful sign-in does not remove eligibility conditions.
Install, update and get help
Use Downloads, verify the exact package, and check the installed version. The app shows version 2.1.2.1, the first public build of 2.1.2; private error reports show App version 2.1.2+build.1. Save and back up work before following Update, move and roll back. Keep older projects and installers until the replacement is verified. For a problem, send support the version, host, time and visible error without secrets or private source.
Using Digital Design Studio 2.1.2
Digital Design Studio 2.1.2 uses one application for RTL, ISA in Flow Navigator, ALcad and vFactory. Windows My PC, Linux desktop and Cloud have different execution hosts. A visible command or settings page does not establish that its engine is available. Check the selected host and the operation result before interpreting an output.
Cloud UVM and the Physical coordinator runtime remain unavailable. Built-in HLS, QEDA layout/solvers and virtual-FPGA Evolve require the Linux native host; they do not run on Windows or Cloud. Static OpenQASM circuit import is a separate Windows/Linux capability. A result viewer, imported report or AI response is not an engine execution or manufacturing signoff.
