This page describes where Digital Design Studio (DDS) 1.0.89.4 works and the limits that apply.

Environments

Environment

What this page covers

Windows — My PC

The Windows app with a project folder on your PC. WSL is not required. The "Windows — My PC" column below applies.

Browser — Cloud

Altifigence Cloud in a web browser. The "Browser — Cloud" column below applies.

Windows — Cloud project

A Cloud project opened in the Windows app. It uses the same Cloud editor as the browser; the Cloud statements on this page cover what was checked in a browser.

Linux

The Linux desktop app. Linux features are not presented as part of this version's supported scope.

Status meanings

Status

Meaning

Supported

Works within the stated conditions.

Limited

Works only for the stated inputs, tools or account state.

Not supported

This environment does not provide the feature.

Not available in 1.0.89.4

Not available to anyone in this version.

Planned for a later version

Not in this version; planned for a later version.

Not presented as part of this version's supported scope in this environment.

Access on Windows — My PC

  • Signed in, on any plan including Free: the local features below work without a device licence.

  • Not signed in (guest): you can edit and save files only.

  • Offline with a saved account: you can open the app and edit and save files. Signed-in features turn on automatically once the connection returns and your account is confirmed. Unsaved edits made after an offline or slow start carry over once your account is confirmed.

Feature support

Features not listed in this table are not presented as part of this version's supported scope.

Feature

Windows — My PC

Browser — Cloud

Open a project, create files and folders, edit and save

Supported. Guests can edit and save.

Supported for opening a project and editing, saving and reopening its files.

Unsaved edits after closing the app

Limited: unsaved edits in open tabs are kept on this PC and restored when you reopen the project with the same account. Edits in an editor opened in its own window, and inputs such as commit messages, are not kept. Each file's edits must fit in 1 MiB, with up to 128 files and 4 MiB in total per project window, and an abrupt shutdown can lose the latest edits. Restoring does not save the file. Even with "Do not ask again" on, the app asks before exiting when some unsaved edits could not be kept on this PC. Save your edits before switching to another project.

—

Git: create a repository

Supported when signed in. Requires Git for Windows; the first branch is main.

—

Git: status, changes, history and file differences

Limited: signed in, with Git for Windows installed. Git runs without opening console windows. Git history can be filtered by branch, author, date and path.

—

Git: commit author name and email

Supported when signed in. DDS uses the repository identity, then user.name and user.email from your global Git settings; otherwise it asks for a name and email, prefilled from your account, and saves them to that repository.

—

SystemVerilog completion

Limited: signed in; project symbols, keywords, system tasks and directives.

—

SystemVerilog parameter hints

Limited: signed in; see Limits.

—

RTL lint and compiler diagnostics

Limited: signed in; the built-in bounded compiler. This is not synthesis or simulation.

—

RTL module tree

Limited: signed in; see Limits.

Limited: the same rules as on My PC.

Import report

Limited: signed in; supported saved report formats.

—

Trace review and golden comparison

Limited: signed in; supported saved formats.

Not supported

KLayout and external editors

Limited: signed in. The KLayout page and the external editor settings are available.

Not supported (requires the Windows app)

Built-in terminal

Not supported. Run commands in your PC's terminal app from the project folder.

—

Separate settings window

Supported when signed in.

Not supported (the browser has its own settings page)

Open an editor tab in its own window

Limited: signed in, for saved files. Closing that window hands the file back to the main window, where you can open it again. After a restart, a file that was open in its own window returns to the main window's tabs. Detached windows are not reopened after the app restarts.

Not supported (browser tabs are separate)

Technology (PDK) settings

Limited: a Technology kit (manifest, selection and source-lock files) can be previewed, saved, switched and switched back, and the choice is kept after a restart. Raw LEF or Liberty files are not converted, and GDS layer display is not supported.

—

ISA documents

—

Limited: open ISA documents and use the Outline and Instructions views.

ALcad documents

Limited: open documents and samples.

Limited: open documents.

Server analysis

Not supported

Not available in 1.0.89.4

PPA, Evolve, full UVM and FDTD server runs

Planned for a later version

Planned for a later version

New analysis on Windows — My PC

  • Available: Import report; UVM, where the view opens but UVM runs are not available in this environment; FDTD2D.

  • Shown as "Not available in this environment": Target analysis, Saved RTL, Structural analysis, RTL synthesis, Technology mapping, Saved artifacts, RTL simulation and Cloud CPU. The other analysis views keep working.

Limits

  • RTL module tree: built from saved .sv and .v files, up to 500 files and 16 MiB of source in total. Above either limit, a notice replaces the tree. Testbenches are grouped separately. The tree follows declarations and instances; it is not an elaboration of the design.

  • SystemVerilog parameter hints: ANSI-style functions and tasks in the same file or module, and the listed standard system calls such as $fatal. The first argument must state its direction and type; later arguments may inherit both, or inherit the direction with an explicit built-in type. Package, class and member calls and non-ANSI arguments are not supported.

  • Git on My PC requires Git for Windows. Applying reviewed changes across several files is not available for My PC projects.

  • GDS on My PC: .gds files appear in the Explorer and open in a GDS tab, but the tab says "GDS projection is unavailable in this workspace." and draws no layout. GDS layers are not displayed.

  • Detached editor windows are not reopened after the app restarts; their files return to the main window's tabs.

  • Server analysis messages in Cloud: if you start a server analysis, you see "Cloud server analysis is not yet available in this environment." with the error code PROVIDER_ROUTE_REVOKED. These appear because this version does not offer server analysis.

Not in this version

  • Server analysis, including Cloud RTL analysis, Saved RTL, RTL synthesis, technology mapping, RTL simulation and Cloud CPU runs: not available in 1.0.89.4; planned for a later version.

  • PPA, Evolve, full UVM and FDTD server runs: planned for a later version.

  • Cloud MCP: planned for a later version.
